Mark Bisset the Spicy Piper, started playing the pipes in 2005 and has since played solo in numerous concerts, including the Launch of the National Poppy Appeal in 2012 with the Royal Artillery Band which included playing with the classical singer Haley Westenra and during the 21 Gun Salute at the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. In 2015 he played at the Beating Retreat at Horse Guards Parade and performed at the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo during the re-enactment on the actual battle field at Hougoumont, Belguim . He Also later performed with Singer Song writer Alan Brandon at the 100 year anniversary of the battle of Pashendaeal in Ypres 2017
In 2018 Marks work was recognised and he was awarded the GP CAPT Robinson’s Award at the Military Bravos and later that year he was awarded The Forces Global Unsung Hero Award by BFBS Radio and Television in recognition of his services to the armed forces community where his story was then shared to a world wide audience. Mark was then asked to continue and present his story further at the annual Lord-Lieutenants of Oxfordshire Awards Ceremony and then later he was featured on BBC News and National News Papers. Then to top things off at the end of the year he was awarded an AOC2 Queens Commendation which placed him on the Queens New Year Honours List.
In 2019 his recognition was extended and later that year he received the RAFBF Above and Beyond award in London. Mark played his part with the RAF in marching at the Queens Jubilee 2022 including his participation Queens Funeral in 2023. He also received the Jubilee Medal and has qualified for the Kings Coronation Medal.
His prolific and tireless fundraising efforts have helped to raise over £120 thousand pounds for various armed forces charities. Former Pipe Major of the 42nd Royal Highland Black Watch N.A. and a former member of the British Airways Pipe Band and RSPBA (The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association), Mark released his first album No Man’s Land and presented a copy to (then) King Charles during an invitation to St James’s Palace. He has since released his second Album called “Spicy The Album” including a number of singles which are available in all major music platforms. He contemporary modern music is an extension to his Bagpiping.
